Application Form (Part B) Special Categories:
The following is a brief guide to the special categories
on page 3 of the Form. Please consult HEI literature
for information on relevant qualifications and how they
will be assessed.
A.
GCE/GCSE: Tick this box to indicate
GCE A-level
and AS-level, GCSE/O-level (1985 to the current
year) Northern Ireland and British Examination
Boards ONLY (CCEA, AEB, AQA, EDEXCEL,
OCR, UCLES, WJEC).
GCE/GCSE Examinations from OTHER Boards
MUST be entered under Category B (Other School
Leaving Exams).
B.
OTH. S/L EXAMS: Tick this box to indicate other
school leaving examinations and describe these briefly on
Page 4 of the Form.
1.
Irish Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations.
2.
Mention any pre 1985 Irish Leaving Certificate
Exams.
3.
Mention any NUI Matriculation Examinations.
4.
Mention any University of Dublin (Trinity College)
Matriculation Examinations taken before 2010
(2010 examination information will be obtained by
CAO direct from the University).
5.
Mention any pre 1985 N. Ireland and British
GC(S)E.
6.
Mention any other school-leaving examinations,
including any
taken outside Republic of Ireland
e.g. BTEC, HND, GNVQ, VCE and Applied GCEs,
Scottish Exams, Baccalaureate, Abitur, Maturità, etc.
C.
NCVA LEVEL 2 / 3 (pre-2002): You should tick
this box only if you have COMPLETED a full NCVA
Level 2/3 award before 2002.
Mention on Page 4 of the Form any pre-2002 NCVA
Level 2/3 examinations
which have been fully
completed, and show the year the qualification was
certified.
NOTE:
Specific NCVA Level 2/3 awards may be required for
entry to particular courses. You should check the
appropriate HEI literature to ensure that your NCVA
Level 2/3
course is acceptable. A full NCVA Level
2/3 Award is required. An NCVA Level 2/3 Record of
Achievement is NOT sufficient.

D.
FURTHER EDUCATION (Other than FETAC
Level 5/6 & NCVA Level 2/3.):
1.
Mention any special experience and/or qualification
stipulated in HEI literature as being relevant for
admission purposes. DO NOT mention anything
unless it has been stipulated, as this may delay
consideration of your application.
2.
Mention any Post-Leaving Certificate Courses
(Republic of Ireland). If relevant, state on Page 4 of
the Form the dates, locations, subjects and (if
known) results.
3.
Mention any other relevant Further
Education/Training qualifications.
E.
HIGHER EDUCATION (Attended or attending a 3rd
level institution, i.e. Universities, Institutes of
Technology, Colleges of Education, etc.):
1.
If you have ever attended a higher education
institution anywhere, you MUST enter YES on Page
2. This must be done regardless of whether you
passed or failed or did not take examinations. Please
see the special note on Page 3 of the Form about
failure to disclose this information.
2.
If you have completed a course, you should include a
copy of an academic transcript.
3.
If you have withdrawn from a course before
completing it, you should enclose a certificate of
attendance showing the relevant dates of entry and
withdrawal.
4.
If you are still attending an institution of higher
education give full details on Page 4 of the Form
stating institution(s) attended, course(s) taken, dates
of attendance, current status and results obtained.
You do not need to supply the documentation
mentioned in 3 above.
