Applications to  be made direct to HEIs:
Note the categories below.
A) General:
You should apply direct to the appropriate HEI (and NOT
through CAO) in the following cases:
(1)
Postgraduate courses.
(2)
Entry to courses at post-initial-year level.
(3)
Short duration, one-term, part-time and occasional
courses. (See Section C)
(4)
Re-admission to Mary Immaculate College, Trinity
College and University of Limerick.
(5)
Follow-on courses at the Institutes of Technology.
(6)
Certain mature applicants (See Section D).
(7)
Any course not mentioned in this Handbook.
B) Residence outside the EU: (Past or Present)
1.
Application direct to HEIs:
If you have at any time resided, or are at present
resident, outside the EU, then you may be required to
apply direct to the following HEIs:

If you wish to apply to any of the HEIs listed above,
and you have ever resided outside the EU, then you
MUST contact the Admissions Office of each HEI in
which you are interested to enquire whether you
should apply through CAO or direct to the HEI. 
Different HEIs may have different policies.
You should make such enquiries well in advance of
the Closing Date of 1st February 2010.
You may be able to view HEI policies on HEI
websites.
2.
Application through CAO:
Applicants for all other HEIs MUST apply through CAO.
Failure to check the proper application procedure may
have serious implications.
C) Evening and part-time courses:
Most part-time and evening courses are not offered
through the CAO Application System and direct
application must be made for them. The HEIs offer a wide
variety of such courses and, if you are interested in these
modes of study, you should make enquiries direct to the
HEIs.
Applications to  be made direct to HEIs (continued):
D) Mature applicants:
1.
Certain restrictions may apply in the case of Mature
Applicants. Such applicants MUST contact the Admissions
Office or Mature Students Officer of the appropriate HEIs
well in advance of the closing date.
2.
Normally mature applicants should be 23 years old on or
before 1st  January 2010 for admission in Autumn 2010 and
must apply by 1st February 2010. However, some HEIs
may have a different age requirement, different definitions
of mature applicants, etc., and some will consider
applications received after 1st  February 2010. 
3.
In all cases, you should contact the Admissions Office or
Mature Students Officer of the appropriate HEIs well in
advance of application closing dates.
4.
If you are applying for nursing/midwifery, using mature
applicant course codes, you must apply for these courses
through CAO by 1st February 2010.

If you are a mature applicant applying to:
 
Dublin City University
NUI Maynooth
Pontifical University Maynooth
Trinity College Dublin
you must submit the normal application to CAO by
the closing date of 1st February 2010.  
In addition, you must also submit to the appropriate
HEI, by 1st February 2010, a separate Form which is
available from the Admissions Office of the HEI.
Contact NUI Maynooth directly to ascertain late
application availability for some courses.
6.
The HEIs which are not mentioned in (4) or (5) above
require mature applicants to apply through CAO.
Individual HEIs may have restrictions on  Late
Applications and Changes of Mind. Mature applicants
should make enquiries from the appropriate
Admissions Office and/or
Mature Students Officer
BEFORE submitting a Late Application or Change of
Mind.
